Why Fit Barre Is My Non-Negotiable Self-Care

I have a deep connection to the Fit Barre experience. I don’t negotiate on going to class now. It’s a personal investment I rely on to keep me strong: mentally, physically, and socially.

I purchased a trial membership in 2018. I fumbled my way through my first few classes. I quickly got over trying to be “good” at it. Everyone shakes like crazy anyway.

As I started to get the hang of the choreography, a few instructors made a point of affirming my hard work. They started calling me by name and cheering me on. I felt like I was starting the day with a community.

After a couple of days, I felt empowered, like I had a clear daily purpose that wasn’t centered around my career. I started making friends with the regulars I saw each morning. I left the studio with a smile on my face.

The people there were unique—different stages of life, different fitness levels and more—but all were very warm and welcoming. It felt like a family. I didn’t have to earn any street cred to be a part of their world.

Today I’m in the best shape of my life. My mind and body are connected like never before and I’m part of a community that fosters inclusivity, encouragement, personal growth, and friendship.

Now I look forward to going five days a week for many reasons. My second family lives there. I get to push myself physically and mentally, all with personalized support from the staff. I emerge from class feeling strong and powerful.

If it wasn’t for the little space I now call home, I would not be where I am today. The Fit Barre experience goes way beyond the barre.  I will be forever grateful for all the good it has brought me.
